The meeting was called to order at 7PM, with a prayer asking God to bless our endeavors. We immediately jumped into a review of the previous week’s activities, including a review from a conversation that Robert Brady had with Eddie Urbine, a representative of the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia, or SBCVA. Specific guidance was sought on parameters or existing by-laws that would limit us in our search for a new location. Additionally, recommendations were made on what to look for specifically in a realtor, which we incorporated into our proposed Request for Proposal.

Through the discussion, a unified decision was made that due to the time constraints and lack of expertise of real estate on the team, it would be advantageous to seek out the representation of a professional realtor with a specific focus on commercial properties and/or undeveloped land. Based on individual and group discussions, we agreed upon a sub-team aggregation and ranking of all potential candidates, before deciding on several finalists to bring in for interviews, with a repeat of the ranking process to determine the specific realtor we will use.
The creation of a unified email address was achieved, and the username was decided as SMBC.steering.team@gmail.com. This will allow for a single Point of Contact for anyone inside or outside the church to get in touch with the team as a whole, without necessarily having to surrender individual team member’s contact info. Finally, the rough outline for a Request for Proposals was drawn together, which has been included below. The meeting was then closed in prayer, with several specific prayer requests: 1) The property selection, and that God would guide us to the right location, 2) realtor selection and interview, that we would choose wisely, 3) the entire Steering Team, as we continue to pursue what God’s will for the future of SMBC is, and 4) Melanie, as she acts as a representative to potential realtors and asks for proposals.

Founded in 1956, Smith Memorial Baptist Church has served the Greater Williamsburg area and its residents with a specific focus on missions and outreach. Due to continued growth and expansion, we are now seeking a new building location, due to land and building constraints of our current property. (6515 Richmond Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188)
We are currently in the process of selecting a realtor to represent SMBC as we look towards the future. All submissions must be received by March 31, 2016 to be considered.
Request for Proposal Guidelines:
– How many years have you been involved in commercial realty?
– What is your commission for representing SMBC as a buyer’s agent vs. seller’s agent?
 – 2 page maximum for proposals
 – Are you able to work on an extremely aggressive timeline?
Search Scope:
 – Must have a minimum of 10 buildable acres
 – Location will be in the Greater Williamsburg area
