Rev. Patman Lester
Associate Pastor – Worship & Music
Rev. Patman Lester was born and raised around Gainesville, Georgia, just northeast of Atlanta, and was saved at the age of 7 during his church’s spring revival.  Pursuing a career in choral conducting, he earned degrees from Furman University and the Florida State University.  During his studies at FSU, God called him to part-time music ministry at a nearby church in 1993. It was there that he met his wife Susan and began to see that God’s plan for his life was different than the one he had been pursuing.  He has served churches in Florida and Georgia before coming to Smith Memorial in 2008.
Patman believes that the biblical pattern of worship involves offering every moment of our lives to God (Romans 12:1), and that music is only one way among many that God has given us to glorify Him and to proclaim His truth. Colossians 3:16-17 guides his musical philosophy: “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”  Even though some people don’t agree with him, Patman believes that with a little work, everyone can sing.
Patman and Susan have a son, Nathanael, born in 2007.
