Dr. John Jicka

Senior Pastor

Pastor John prayed his prayer of surrender to the Lord Jesus on a church playground with his dad when he was seven. God gave him a burden for the lonely, hopeless, and hurting at that time. As a young adult, God called him to shepherd His sheep and to seek the lost.
He is from Alabama and has pastored churches in West Virginia and Tennessee. He has also lived abroad and served the Lord in both Great Britain and Indonesia. If you ask him about his spiritual journey, he will joyfully tell you that he has been extravagantly blessed. Next to his relationship with Jesus, his greatest blessings are Sherry, his wife, and Mili, his daughter.
“Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy” 1 Peter 1:8.

D. Greg Dowell, Jr.

Executive Administrator

After a handful of visits in early 2016, Greg and his wife, Sara, made the decision to participate in the Lord’s ministry at SMBC. Greg has served our children in the AWANA program, and has been an audio/visual team member. Both he and Sara have taught a Sunday School youth class, as well as providing monthly bible and worship services at the Consulate of Williamsburg.
Greg previously served in the Air Force, then as a Police Officer in the state of Idaho. He and Sara met at Liberty University, and have been married since 2002. They have three children – a daughter and two sons. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy: Public Administration. Over many years and trials he has come to crave a deeper relationship with Christ, and an appreciation of His love. His hope is to be profitable to the Lord in any circumstance.
“He is jealous for every part of us!” James 4:5

Linda Marquis

Administrative Assistant

Thanks in part to an Evangelism Explosion team visitation, Linda Marquis and her husband, Bob came to know Christ’s forgiveness and salvation as adults. They were blessed to be able to home educate their three sons through high school and are now entering a different stage in their lives filled with new and exciting ministry opportunities.  Linda has been a member of Smith Memorial Baptist Church since 2003.  She was instrumental in launching the church library, and has been serving as SMBC’s Administrative Assistant since 2008.
Joey Kelley

Worship Pastor

When Joey was 19 years old, God called him to be a worship pastor. He had no idea what he wanted to do with his life before this, but one weekend while leading worship, he felt God calling him to worship ministry. It was an undeniable call. The next week, he put in a transfer request to Liberty University and the next fall, he began studying music and worship theology. He would get his degree in Music and Worship in the spring of 2014.
Originally from Massachusetts, Joey has served in churches from New England, to Texas, to Virginia. He loves what he does: from leading choir on Monday nights to rocking with the band on Wednesday nights.
Joey has a lovely wife, Valorie, (who he met at Liberty) and three daughters: Lainee, Pippa, and Posie, and one son: Cooper. Besides music, Joey’s hobbies include: doing puzzles, watching hockey, snowboarding, and reading. On a typical night, you would probably find Joey playing board games with his family, watching sports on television, or just spending time with his family.

One of his favorite verses from Scripture is: “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you. in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17
Josh Riley

Student Pastor

Originally from Kentucky, Joshua first came to SMBC as an 8th grader in 2009, where he was part of the student ministry he now leads. He met his wife Caitlynn here at SMBC when they were in the youth group together. They have been married for over 5 years and have 2 boys, Benjamin and Daniel-Mark. After graduating with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration-Marketing in 2018, Joshua entered the Active Army being commissioned from ROTC. During his time on Active Duty, he felt the aspiration to enter vocational ministry, and after much prayer and counsel, Joshua entered seminary in January 2020. After leaving Active Duty in 2022, Joshua served at a church in Sandston for almost 2 years before arriving back home to SMBC in August 2023. Joshua graduated from Southeastern Seminary in May 2023 with his Master of Divinity in Christian Ministry.

Josh is optimistic about the future of the church as he serves the students that comprise the “Revival Generation.” In his free time, Josh enjoys disc golf, running and working out, drinking too much coffee, attempting to play basketball, rooting for the Kentucky Wildcats, and spending quality time with his family.

Josh‘s favorite Scripture is John 3:30-  “He must increase, but I must decrease.”

Jenny Parker

Office Administrator

Jenny was born and raised in England. She accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of 8, but it was not until she was in her late teens that she surrendered to Jesus as her Lord. When she left art college, a different path opened for her and she began working in full-time ministry. While working in evangelism (schools, ministry, and work with local churches) Jenny trained with Teen Challenge UK. Then on a mission trip to the US, she met Mike and in 1991 they were married. They continued to work with Teen Challenge USA. They eventually relocated to Williamsburg, joining SMBC in 2017, Jenny joined the staff in March of 2020 as an office assistant and in May of 2021 she became the team lead for the Women’s Ministry. Mike and Jenny have been blessed with 8 children: two are with the Lord and six are now grown adults. They also have 2 grandchildren.

Jenny’s favorite verse is Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”
