Local Missions

At Smith Memorial Baptist Church we believe that missions is a way of life. While international and national missions are an important focus of our church, we understand that in our everyday lives we cross many lost people who need and want to hear the Good News. Servanthood Evangelism is a way every church member can be a part of mission work. The Bible provides numerous examples from Jesus’ ministry, and that of the disciples, where they effectively combined service with the proclamation of the Good News. The goal of the Servanthood Evangelism projects is to give people ideas of ways to serve and be intentional about sharing the love of Jesus. The goal is to remind people that one does not have to travel to another state or country to be a missionary. We can be missionaries everyday here in our own town.
CEF is a worldwide ministry to children ages 4-14, the largest unreached people group in the world. Ministry goes outside the church walls to give every child the opportunity to hear the gospel and respond in receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.  CEF assists churches in offering Good News Clubs as an after school program for one hour one day a week during the school year. In the summer, CEF trains teenagers to reach children by holding 5-Day Clubs; it’s like taking VBS to the neighborhoods.

FISH is an all volunteer organization of close to 250 people with no paid staff.  Volunteers elect a Board of Directors who in turn elect a President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer.

FISH provides food, clothing, small house wares and transportation to the less fortunate and needy citizens of Williamsburg, James City County and the Bruton District of York County.  Requests for these services are referred to FISH by social service agencies, churches, United Way, Avalon and other agencies.  These services are provided at no cost to the recipient.

FISH does not receive any government or United Way funding and we do not do any fund raising on our own.

FISH depends solely on the generosity of individuals, churches, civic and business organizations as well as grants from foundations and memorial funds.
