Pastor John – Dec. 8

Expecting Jesus

People. We become unbalanced in lots of ways. We swing one way with the pendulum or the other. Being balanced is a challenge for us. We have passionate feelings that drive us. Sometimes they drive us beyond where God
wants us to be.
Think about the balance of Proverbs 30:8-9. “…give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me, lest I be full and deny you and say, “Who is the Lord?” or lest I be poor and steal and profane the name of my God.” Satan does judo on us by pushing or pulling us to an extreme position. As these verses say, poverty and riches are both bad for our fellowship with God.
Consider the imbalance of how we see the important people God uses for His purposes. We give them way too much respect or not enough. We put them on pedestals, or we give them ungrateful contempt.
Be it Billy Graham, your favorite pastor, or Mary the mother of Jesus, we need BALANCED appreciation for the people God has used to deliver Jesus to us. We must not worship them. But we should appreciate them for what God accomplished through them.
We enter into our season of worship today for the amazing thing that God did. He sent Jesus into the world to save us. And, He did it through PEOPLE. Today we will look at Zechariah and Elizabeth – two people who were expecting Jesus.
